(The Tartan) (U-WIRE) PITTSBURGH -- The recent discovery of politically
grounded research at Carnegie Mellon University has brought heat upon
the Republican Party of Pennsylvania and the University.
Between 1998 and 2001, the University received $526,000 for research
to determine the optimal way to redistrict Pennsylvania to increase
Republican influence in the U.S. House of Representatives. Due to
statewide population loss, Pennsylvania was forced to eliminate two
Congressmen in local districts -- one in Pittsburgh and one in Philadelphia.
