SALT LAKE CITY, Feb 18 Reuters - The United States trounced Belarus 8-1 today to gain top spot in Group D and earn a date against winless Germany in the men's Olympic ice hockey quarter-finals.

"I think every team is good but obviously you want to finish first and play the lowest seed you can," said American Brett Hull, who scored one goal to go along with two assists in the game.

Russia lost to Finland 3-1, enabling the US to clinch the top spot in the group.
