LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) _ Bolivian President Jorge Quiroga declared a state of emergency in the capital Wednesday after a powerful storm caused flash floods that killed at least 36 people, collapsed homes and cut electricity a day earlier.

More rain fell Wednesday as worried family members awaited news of dozens reported missing.

The storm, which began about 3 p.m. Tuesday and lasted nearly an hour, dropped heavy hail and rain that flooded streets in the city center, turning the main street into a muddy river.
