Tuesday, March 12, 2002 -- The railway line from Tel Aviv to Beit Shemesh will begin operating by September 2003, before train service to Jerusalem resumes, Transportation Minister Ephraim Sneh said yesterday.

Train service to and from Beit Shemesh will enable its residents to travel directly to Tel Aviv, and from there to Haifa, Acre, and Nahariya.

New train stations are to be built at Beit Shemesh and Ramle. Work on the new station at Beit Shemesh began three weeks ago.
