NSW: Shortcomings lead to call for local government reform

SYDNEY, March 21 AAP - Local government councillors in NSW could
face tougher scrutiny
under changes to accountability measures proposed by an independent
MP.
Manly MP David Barr has introduced a bill into parliament to establish
a local government
ethics review panel to examine the probity and ethical behaviour of
local government councillors.
The panel would consist of a representative from the Department
of Local Government,
the Local Government and Shires Association, and two members from
separate organisations
