Fresh from talks with U.S. officials on a new nuclear weapons accord,
a Russian diplomat said Saturday that Moscow is confident an agreement
will be reached.
Both sides "succeeded in working two texts into one basically in one
month," Deputy Foreign Minister Gregory Mamedov said, according to
Interfax news agency. "Now there are two or three fundamental questions
that need to be solved to prepare the agreement for signing."
The new accord is expected to slash the number of nuclear arsenals
on each side to between 1,700 and 2,200 warheads. Currently, both
sides have about 6,000.
