State Attorney General Philip McLaughlin says he's still struggling
to make sense of last year's vicious stabbing deaths of two German-
born college professors by a pair of Vermont teen-agers.
The motivation for the violence seems inexplicable, McLaughlin said
Friday, recalling how James Parker, 17, gave prosecutors a stark and
unemotional account of the Jan. 27, 2001, murders.
"How on earth could it be that the person who is describing this so
unemotionally could have the emotional energy to go and do this?"
McLaughlin asked. "I don't know."
