Qld: Reforms brought in to stamp out electoral fraud

BRISBANE, April 17 AAP - New checks on political parties and jail sentences for electoral fraudsters have been introduced in Queensland to try to eliminate electoral rorting in the state.

The changes, brought in by a Labor Government embarrassed by revelations of electoral fraud within its own ranks, give the Queensland Electoral Commission the power to audit pre-election documents of political parties.

Candidates must also register how-to-vote cards seven days before an election, to prevent last-minute secret deals.
