Dateline: MOSCOW Orthodox believers protested Sunday in front of eastern Russia's main Catholic cathedral, while Catholics inside prayed for the return of their bishop, who was barred from Russia amid escalating discord in church relations.

About 350 people, including local politicians, gathered in front of the Immaculate Heart Cathedral in the Siberian city of Irkutsk during Sunday morning services, the ITAR-Tass news agency and Echo of Moscow radio reported.

Their rallying slogan was "Down With Expansion of Catholicism in Russia." No violence was reported in the protest.
