(State News) (U-WIRE) EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Donations to MSU's only nonprofit athletic fund-raising campaign have nearly
tripled in the last three years.

The Ralph Young Fund, named for a former MSU athletic director, is used to
generate money for the 25 men's and women's varsity sports.

From June 1996 to June 1997, the Ralph Young Fund raked in $5.6 million --
nearly a third of the athletic department's expenditures for 1996-97, fund
director Terry Braverman said.

Athletic Director Merritt Norvell said the athletic department would not
function without the support of the Ralph Young Fund.
