(State News) (U-WIRE) EAST LANSING, Mich. -- In a match that had all the makings of ending in a scoreless tie, the MSU
women's soccer bench proved valuable.

Sparked by the play of freshman forward Kim Van Cleef, MSU defeated Eastern
Michigan 2-0 Sunday at Old College Field. The win snapped the Spartans'
three-game losing streak.

The game remained scoreless through most of the second half until sophomore
midfielder Laura Montecillo headed a pass from Van Cleef into the net with 7:59
left in the match.

Just over a minute later, Van Cleef scored her first goal of the season past
Eastern Michigan sophomore goalkeeper Erin Norton on an assist from junior
