LUSAKA, May 17 (IPS) -- An anticipated spurt in activity on
the Lusaka Stock Exchange (LuSE) on the back of a major listing
has rekindled hopes of an upturn in the economy, but
paradoxically underscored the growing gap between the "haves" and
the "have-nots" in this impoverished southern African country.
Key economic players were upbeat about the country's prospects
this week following the floatation of the government's stock in
BP Zambia, one of the largest seen on the bourse since it was
established eight years ago.
