Dateline: LONDON James Chichester-Clark, who served as prime minister of Northern Ireland from 1969-1971, has died aged 79.

Chichester-Clark, who became a life baron in 1971 and was given the title Lord Moyola, died May 17 after a short illness, his family said.

He was prime minister in the troubled British province when rioting on the streets of Belfast and Londonderry forced his administration to ask the government of British Prime Minister Harold Wilson to send in troops to help maintain order.

James Dawson Chichester-Clark was born on Feb. 12, 1923 and was educated at Eton, before joining the army.
