NSW: Melbourne researchers find heart attack genes

SYDNEY, May 23 AAP - Melbourne researchers have become the first in the world to identify a set of genes that could make a person more prone to heart attack.

The study, the first ever of its kind, involved testing the DNA of brothers and sisters who shared a history of heart attack.

Research team leader Professor Stephen Harrap of Melbourne University' s physiology department said the discovery of the location of the three genes would pave the way for new ways of preventing and treating heart attack.
