Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin is giving his new government 200
days to deliver key economic and political reforms, assuming the right
prevails in next month's legislative elections.
"If in 200 days there isn't real change, the risk of social tensions
will be heavy," Raffarin said in an interview to be published Thursday
in the French weekly L'Express.
Raffarin said the first reforms will deal with security, with legislation
due over the summer.
Security was at the center of the campaign promises of conservative
President Jacques Chirac, re-elected in a landslide victory in May
