Canon to Make Digital Cameras in China
CHINA, Jun 03, 2002 (AsiaPort via COMTEX) -- Camera and office equipment
maker Canon Inc said on May 28 it will start making digital cameras
in China late this year or early next year, joining a rush by Japan'
s camera makers to tap China's low production costs.
No production targets have yet been set, although the company aims
to boost its overseas digital camera output to 40 percent of the global
total, in unit terms, from the current 30 percent, a spokesman said.
Despite its slow start in the booming digital camera market, Canon
has rapidly boosted its market share over the past year with aggressive
