Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao, who is poised to be the next leader
of China, has arrived in Washington. Tomorrow he meets with President
Bush and Vice President Cheney. It's an important visit for Hu, the
beginning of his emergence onto the world stage. In the fall, he'
s due to take over as leader of the Chinese Communist Party, and after
that he's expected to become China's president. NPR's Rob Gifford
reports on the man who soon will take the reins of the world's most
populous country.
