But first, in 1996, researchers working in the Florida Keys noticed
that a strange new disease was attacking the coral reefs. Attacking
is hardly the right word here. It has since killed 85 percent of
the elkhorn coral. They've dubbed the disease white pox and set about
trying to figure out what it was, why it had suddenly appeared and
