Facing a huge shortfall, a private fund compensating Asian women forced
into sexual slavery by Japan's imperial army has asked Prime Minister
Junichiro Koizumi and his Cabinet ministers to contribute cash from
their own wallets, a fund official said Tuesday.
The Asian Women's Fund wants Koizumi to give 150,000 yen (dlrs 1,200)
and every Cabinet member 100,000 yen (dlrs 800) to help raise money
for 290 women who have applied for money from the fund, said an AWF
spokesman on condition of anonymity.
The fund promises 2 million yen (dlrs 16,000) each in "atonement money"
for women from Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines who were forced
