India allows FDI in print-media

CALCUTTA, India, Jun 26, 2002 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- The Indian government Tuesday opened up the print media to foreign direct investment, allowing up to a 26 percent foreign stake in newspapers and current affairs periodicals and 74 percent in other forms of print media.

Tuesday's decision ends decades-long debate over whether FDI should be allowed in the print media on account of issues relating to national security. It essentially means that foreign publications will now be able to invest in Indian newspapers and overturns a 1955 government resolution that had dictated Indian control of the media citing national ...
