The leader of a major group of poor nations on Thursday called on
the United States to use its wealth and power to fight poverty in
developing nations.
Meeting at a tropical island resort near the Fijian town of Nadi,
the third summit of leaders from the 78-member African Caribbean Pacific
group is trying to build a unified front for crucial trade talks with
the European Union that begin Sept. 27.
ACP member states, which comprise 650 million people, include the
world's 40 poorest countries and some of its tiniest and most fragile
states.
