Vic: Law firm insists tobacco arm quit for business reasons
MELBOURNE, July 18 AAP - A law firm criticised by a Supreme Court
judge for its role
in destroying documents related to a dying smoker's court case is
to shut its tobacco
litigation practice.
But the firm, Clayton Utz, insists the decision had nothing to
do with the judge's
criticisms in the case in which dying smoker Rolah McCabe was awarded
$700,000 in compensation
from cigarette giant British American Tobacco (BAT)
Clayton Utz chief executive partner David Fagan today announced
the firm would close
its tobacco claims litigation practice, effective immediately, saying
it was no longer
compatible ...
