MILAN, Italy (AP) _ La Scala has chosen for next season to offer an untraditional program in an untraditional place, a new theater serving as temporary home while the opera house's venerable temple of song is renovated.

The 2002-2003 season at the newly built Arcimboldi theater will feature musicals, jazz concerts and a number of new and seldom-performed opera titles, La Scala officials said Thursday.

"Iphigenie en Aulide," a less than popular opera by Christoph Gluck, will inaugurate the season for Italy's most renowned opera theater on Dec. 7, the feast day of Milan's patron saint, Ambrose.
