Presidents of Congo and Rwanda are heading to South Africa in coming
days to sign a 90-day timetable toward winding down Congo's 4-year-
old war, Rwanda's and Congo's presidential palaces said Thursday.
Aides for Congo President Laurent Kabila and Rwanda President Paul
Kagame confirmed both men had agreed to the accord, worked out by
their subordinates under mediation by South African President Thabo
Mbeki and others.
"We hope that this is the solution we are looking for. We have been
searching for peace since 1994, and that peace has been elusive,"
Nicholas Shalita, spokesman for Kagame, told The Associated Press
in Kigali, Rwanda.
