NAIROBI, Aug. 5 (IPS) -- The credibility and independence of
the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda is being
threatened by a stand-off with the Rwandan government, according
to a new report by the International Crisis Group (ICG), a
Brussels-based private advocacy organization.
The report's authors heavily criticise Rwanda's government for
preventing witnesses giving evidence against the suspected
masterminds of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
They link this "obstructive behavior" to the Rwandan
government's demand that the Tribunal drops investigations into
allegations of human rights abuses by its own forces.
