Battered Latin American markets, Aug 08, 2002 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- which for weeks have been hammered by political uncertainty in Brazil, near collapse in Uruguay and Argentina's continuing plight -- received a welcome lift with this week's visit to the region by U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill.

Ending his four-day, three-nation tour in Argentina, O'Neill told reporters Wednesday that he had hopes for "success and prosperity throughout Latin America."
