NSW: Double lung transplant teenager recovering in hospital
SYDNEY, Aug 18 AAP - A teenager who received a double-lung transplant
in a Sydney hospital
after a severe bout of pneumonia is expected to make a full recovery.
Scott Townend, a Year 10 student from Sydney's northern suburbs,
had flu symptoms earlier
this year but he soon developed pneumonia and both lungs collapsed
within 24 hours.
He was kept alive on a special breathing machine for a month at
St George Hospital
until a donor was found so the radical operation could go ahead.
Scott was too ill to be moved so a 50 member transplant team from
St Vincent's Hospital
