(Daily Californian) (U-WIRE) BERKELEY, Calif. -- The term "indie-rock" is belittling, ultimately reducing a bevy of truly colorful sounds and styles into a single group. As with many other musical categories, "indie rock" is inextricably bound up with the rest of the auditory misnomers in contemporary music. The confusion is due in part to the rapid hybridization of modern musical forms -- a trend which has caused traditional genres such as rock, rap and jazz to morph into the likes of "post-rock", "trip-hop" and "acid-jazz" -- but that's just the beginning.
