Dateline: TOKYO Atsuya Furuta blasted an early three-run homer as the Yakult Swallows overwhelmed the Hiroshima Carp 11-5 on Saturday, moving a half game closer to the front-running Yomiuri Giants in the Central League.

Hirotsugu Maeda (2-1) gave up just one hit during two innings of relief to pick up the win. Daisuke Sakai (0-1) gave up four runs on five hits in the third and fourth innings and took the loss.

At Tokyo Dome, the Giants and the archrival Hanshin Tigers ended up in a 3-3 tie after 12 innings.
