RACHEL'S Tomb had a Western Wall feel to it yesterday, as thousands of people streamed to the blocked-off street in front of the tomb and combined special penitential prayers preceding Rosh Hodesh Av today with personal prayers that the site remain in Israeli hands.
The tomb itself was packed, with the overflow crowd extending into the normally busy central street in Bethlehem that was blocked off and essentially turned into a massive courtyard for prayer. Men stood and prayed on one side of the divided boulevard, and women - huddled together under the awnings of Arab-owned stores - on the other.
