AN Israeli-Arab has been named an ambassador for the first time, the Foreign Ministry said yesterday. Ali Adeeb Yihyia, a lecturer in education at Tel Aviv University, will serve as ambassador to Finland.
"I am proud to be Israel's first Arab ambassador and to open the door for integration inside and outside the country. It makes me proud not only to represent the Arab sector but to represent the whole country," Yahia told Reuters.
A resident of Kafr Kara in the Galilee, Ali Yihyia, 49, also teaches Arabic to Israeli Jews and Hebrew to Palestinians from the occupied territories.
