Just inside Jaffa Gate, a tourist was asking his guide to list the four quarters that make up Jerusalem's Old City. He could name the Jewish, Moslem and Christian quarters, but was hard pressed to think of the fourth. The guide patiently told the tourist that the quarter he'd missed was the Armenian. Few people know about the Armenian Quarter and fewer still visit the area and its two major sites.
The Armenian Quarter sits in the southwestern wedge of the Old City. At Jaffa Gate, the main entrance from western Jerusalem, most of the tourists head straight down into the newly renovated stalls of the Arab market. Drivers and Jewish visitors take ...
