ISTANBUL, June 5 (IPS) -- Having failed in its military campaign
to flush out Kurdish guerrillas from their strongholds in northern
Iraq, the Turkish government is now trying to enlist the support
of Kurdish political parties to find a solution to the conflict.
Since March, Turkish army troops have made several cross border
raids into Iraq in a bid to crush the Kurdistan Workers Party
(PKK), but it has become increasingly clear that Turkey's military
might will not be enough to eradicate the 10,000 strong guerrilla
organization.
As such, the Turkish authorities have begun to hold talks with
Baghdad and the Kurdish political forces ...
