JERUSALEM, Aug. 18 (IPS) -- When Najah Ghaban and her husband,
Mazen, moved to the West Bank in search of housing four years ago,
they thought the move was a good idea: living with in-laws had
become too crowded and housing prices in Jerusalem had skyrocketed.
The first signs of trouble however came when Israel imposed a
"security closure" on the West Bank in March 1993. With Israeli
army checkpoints placed at the entrances to the city, Mazen, a West
Bank native, could no longer get into Jerusalem without a permit.
But Jerusalem-born Najah, still had her blue Jerusalem identity
card (the same one carried by all Israeli citizens) ...
