HARARE, Sept. 1 (IPS) -- The anti-gay sentiments of Zimbabwean
President Robert Mugabe has won applause from some who regard
homosexuality as "un-African" and despair from others over the
intolerance.
The can of worms was opened when the government barred the Gay
and Lesbian Association of Zimbabwe (GALZ) from exhibiting at the
Zimbabwe International Book Fair held from July 28 to August 5.
Calling GALZ the "Association of Sodomists and Sexual Perverts"
Mugabe said "that madness we shall never accept in Zimbabwe...it's
against the law and it will be treated as such."
