HARARE, Oct. 9 (AIA/GIN) -- Though the recent All-Africa Games
in Zimbabwe were largely successful, they were a trial by fire for
the inexperienced organizing committee assembled by the government.
The games, pride of the African continent, were marred by
embarrassing organizational, administrative and financial
shortcomings.
Hosting 6,000 athletes from 46 countries put real strain on the
economy, already reeling from the effects of drought and excessive
government expenditure.
The government pumped Z$200 million (about US$23 million) into
preparations for the games, but the money was held up by
