SANTAFE DE BOGOTA, Dec. 29 (IPS) -- The tension that marks
relations between Colombia and the United States as the century
draws to a close could soon end, according to analysts.
For Colombia, the key lies in "redefining its global role, and,
more importantly, re-examining the parameters and commitments that
link the country with the regional hegemony of the United States,"
says political scientist Juan Gabriel Tokatlian, of the National
University of Bogota.
The expert argues that there is a historical conjuncture in
Colombia's favor: since 1995, it has had the presidency of the
