HARARE, Jan. 14 (IPS) -- Zimbabwe's manufacturing sector has
been caught in a catch 22-situation since the government took the
bitter antidote of economic reforms.
Opening up the economy through trade liberalization brought a
flood of cheap imports into the country, which led to the sector
crying for tariffs. But economists warn that this could prove
disastrous too.
Next month, industry will know its fate when the government
reveals new tariffs, which were approved by the Cabinet in late
December.
