THAILAND'S ambassador to the World Trade Organisation Tuesday hailed
the WTO ruling against the United States in a dispute with Asian nations
over a US law protecting endangered sea turtles, saying the victory proves
that no country can impose power beyond its territory.

But the United States blasted a final WTO report dismissing a US law
that restricts shrimp imports from countries without turtle conservation
measures.

''We believe the WTO panel reached the wrong conclusion. This report
does not affect our efforts to protect endangered sea turtles,'' US Trade
Representative Charlene Barshefsky said in a statement.
