NEW YORK — Taste in American decorating continues to seesaw between English and French design, but the more ornate French style currently has a bit of an edge.
Two exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through June 14 show that the appeal of French style in both porcelain and furniture goes back a long time.
“George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin all owned the same pattern of French porcelain dinnerware,” said Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen, curator of “Elegant China Ware: Paris Porcelain in America.”
