BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) _ Russian forward Maxim Afinogenov, the Buffalo Sabres' third-leading goal scorer last season, agreed to a two-year, $2.4 million contract Wednesday.

Afinogenov will have base salaries of $1.1 million this season and $1.3 million in 2003-04 in the deal that includes numerous bonus clauses.

The contract represents a significant raise over the $800,000 base salary Afinogenov made last season when he had 21 goals and 40 points in 81 games.
