Dateline: HONG KONG Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd., which owns Hong Kong's stock exchange, declined Wednesday to comment on reports that it is considering buying a stake in the American Stock Exchange.

Local media reported this week that the exchanges in Hong Kong and Singapore, which are both listed companies, were considering acquiring stakes in the Amex, the third-largest exchange in the United States.
