(Independent Florida Alligator) (U-WIRE) GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Oranges
developed by University of Florida researchers continue to be the
center of debate between the state's largest citrus growers association
and Tropicana about the company's patent on a new recipe for not-from-
concentrate orange juice.
Valencia oranges, most commonly used for orange juice, are not ready
until March, but UF researchers found four new varieties of oranges
-- Earlygold, Westin, Ruby and Itaborai -- that are mature by early
December.
Company officials claimed Tropicana was the only citrus processor
that could use the varieties, continued research and "filed for a
