(Daily Texan) (U-WIRE) AUSTIN, Texas -- Surrounded by punching trumpets
and ripples of green, white and red, more than a thousand Austinites
gathered on the Plaza Saltillo Sunday evening to celebrate Mexican
Independence Day.
Monday, Diez y Seis de Septiembre, marks the official anniversary
of Dia de la Independencia, the day of Mexican independence.
Pedro Angel Aribe, a member of Ballet Folklorico Raices Mexicanas,
has come to Austin, Texas, in September for the past five years.
"In Mexico, we celebrate [diez y seis] to the max," Aribe said. "We'
re always happy to play here though because the people are nice, and
we have gotten to know them."
