An epic public inquiry into Northern Ireland's "Bloody Sunday" killings
moved Tuesday to London, where more than 300 former British soldiers
were scheduled to testify about what they knew about the killing of
13 Catholics on Jan. 30, 1972.
The three judges of the Bloody Sunday Inquiry have spent four years
so far gathering evidence about the day when British paratroopers
opened fire on Catholic demonstrators in Londonderry, Northern Ireland'
s second-largest city. It was the worst single act of violence committed
by British forces in the past 33 years of bloodshed over the British
territory.
