Vic: Govt to pay police legal costs

MELBOURNE, Sept 17 AAP - Victorian police charged with criminal offences and then acquitted by the courts will have their legal costs paid by the state government after an agreement with the Police Association today.

The deal reverses the termination of a similar reimbursement scheme by the previous government in 1999.

To qualify, police will have to be cleared of wrongdoing by the court, and not be the subject of internal disciplinary proceedings.
