(Technician) (U-WIRE) RALEIGH, N.C. -- Every year, on the first Monday
of October, the U.S. Supreme Court begins a new term that runs till
the end of June. On that day, the familiar cry of "Oyez, Oyez, Oyez"
rings through the elaborate courtroom as the nine justices of the
Supreme Court step out from behind the crimson curtains and take their
seats on the bench to listen to the term's first oral arguments.
This ritual happens every time the Supreme Court begins a new session.
It has occurred for more than 200 years and still goes on today, and
yet, very little attention is paid to its annual opening. In fact,
the Supreme Court itself is shrouded in the cloak ...
