Government soldiers killed 123 rebels and took 63 others prisoners
during the last week, a government official said.
Two government soldiers were killed and five others injured in the
clashes in the northeastern region of Ennedi, Information Minister
Mockhtar Wawa Dahab said Tuesday. The army now controls all the rebels'
bases in Ennedi, Wawa Dahab added.
It was not possible to contact the rebels of the Movement for Democracy
and Justice in Chad, nor independently confirm the information.
The rebels began their rebellion against the government of President
Idriss Deby in the Tibesti region of northern Chad bordering Libya
in December 1998.
