The Dutch government that resigned this week won't block the expansion
of the European Union, and intends to go ahead with major policy changes
despite its uncertain future, the outgoing prime minister said Friday.
Jan Peter Balkenende said the Dutch, which have reservations over
admitting all 10 candidates to the EU because of agricultural subsidies,
won't go against the other EU members.
"The Netherlands has no desire to use its veto because a veto would
damage the Netherlands internationally," Balkenende said after the
first meeting of his Cabinet since its resignation Wednesday.
