(Daily Texan) (U-WIRE) AUSTIN, Texas -- "Brown Sugar" wants to be two
different films. One film is a brief abbreviated history of hip-hop
and the other is an unconventional romantic comedy between two people
who love music more than actual people.
By the end of the film, you end up wishing "Brown Sugar" could be
both of these films, but as the ending draws closer, the realization
that the duality just can't be begins to set in. When all is said
and done, "Brown Sugar" is one good film that could've been the basis
for two better ones. Ironically, the two best performances aren't
given by the two leads, who are both trained actors, but ...
